Request for Proposal (RFP)

The RFP is the critical document in terms of the operation of the competition. The RFP outlines the competition scenario and design requirements for the space settlement. The RFP outlines the specific areas that student proposals must address and includes the following areas:

1. Design
2. Operations and Infrastructure
3. Human Factors
4. Communications
5. Automation of Services

The RFP prescribes formatting and length parameters of proposals as well as submission requirements. Generally the RFP will stipulate that proposals should meet the following parameters:

1. Maximum length of 40 pages;
2. An Executive Summary must be included;
3. There should be a response to all the requirements articulated in the RFP;
4. A construction schedule and costings must be included;
5. A compliance matrix must be included;
6. A bibliography must be included.

While thoroughness, credibility, balance and innovation are important elements taken into consideration when judging student proposals, overall conformity to the RFP is a critical factor.

The RFP for the 2007 UK SDC will be mailed to all teams upon confirmation of registration but not prior to 26 June 2006. This will allow all teams registered by the scheduled closing date for nominations an equal amount of time in which to prepare their proposals.
